Parenthesis Art Space and Brooklyn Brush Studios are excited to present Sophia Chizuco’s first solo project in NYC. Sophia has created a sight specific suspended sumi ink drawing on Chinese rice paper, measuring 130 feet long. The Artist uses a myriad of materials to arrive at planned and spontaneous mark making techniques to explore the central theme of “roots”.
The show opens with two performances in collaboration with dancer Lizzy Zevallos and musician jojoSOUL who will perform live sound. The performance will explore improvisational movement and sound while engaging the scale of the work on view and activating it’s negative space.

About Beat Nite:
Beat Nite made its neighborhood debut inFebruary 2009, featuring all of Bushwick’s alternative art spaces and galleries—at the time, only seven. The event grew into a biannual occurrence offering an awesome neighborhood-wide event that many have labeled “half art stroll, half bar crawl.” With over 50 galleries and alternative spaces now in Bushwick/Ridgewood, beginning in 2012 a special guest curator was invited to select just 10 spaces from the community’s many great offerings. In the fall of 2015, Norte Maar launched a new initiative with theBeat Nite program to feature new emerging artistic communities in Brooklyn and beyond.
About Arts Gowanus:
At Arts Gowanus, our mission is to nurture the vibrant creativity in the Gowanus neighborhood, working for a thriving, supportive, and affordable creative community. To do this, Arts Gowanus nurtures relationships between individual artists, arts organizations, and the broader non-art-focused community:
